My first shot at writing , when I was a teenager

TREKKING : A thrilling experience
Dated : Year 1994-95

When you’re a teenager and you go to an adventurous trek , it’s a real excitement . A Trekker carries all his necessities with him on his shoulders in a rucksack. He has to walk all day, hunt for routes and rest at night in tents. It gives him a rare opportunity of intermingling with nature. It’s a way of remoting unknown places. It’s so addictive that one wants to do it again and again inspite of rough life, risks and hard labor involved .

This year in June we went on the Himalayan trekking expedition organized between two glorious hill stations, Kullu and Manali. I went with my parents, sister and younger brother , cousins and friends . We had great fun!

Our base camp was at Babeli , 8 kms from Kullu . Two days training made us tough and very much prepared for the difficult and unknown route of trekking from Babeli to Poomsu crossing the most dangerous and risky Chandrakhani Pass at a height of 2000 feet and then back to Nagar near Manali covering 100 kms in 10 days. All these are small and beautiful villages in the high terrains of the Himlayas.

We experienced a lot of things like river crossing, rafting, rapling sliding 400 m. on ice glaciers at an altitude of 12,000 feet. During every terrifying and frightening moment we all shouted and our voices telling “HUM HONGE KAMYAB” echoed loudly through the dense valleys. Inspite of being a girl and a teenager, I gained a lot by experiencing the impending dangers, such a rough and tough life which is very uncommon, and unusual. The craze of trekking lasts forever, I would long to spend my entire life trekking!

In the jungles, across the hilly villages, I seem to have fallen in love with Trekking .
